Water that flows across the surface of your yard can cause significant damage if it's flowing toward the house instead of away. Surface drainage solutions — including regrading, swale construction, and berm installation — redirect that flow so it exits the property without threatening the foundation or creating erosion problems.

Regrading and Swales

Many drainage problems are the result of incorrect grading — either from original construction, soil settlement, or landscaping that has changed the surface contours over time. We regrade problem areas to restore positive drainage away from the home. In some cases, a swale — a shallow, vegetated channel — is the right solution for directing concentrated flow across the property safely.

What Surface Drainage Can and Can't Solve

Surface drainage works well when the problem is water running across the yard toward the house. It's less effective for subsurface water that rises from below or migrates through the soil. In those cases, surface drainage is often combined with french drains or catch basins. We assess the full drainage picture before recommending any single solution.
